Testimony Before Boulder County Commission on GM Crops on County Lands

In testimony to the Boulder (CO) County Commission, Val Giddings said that the county has accumulated a decade of experience confirming what millions of small and large farmers have found around the world: Genetically modified (GM) crops deliver superb tools to improve agricultural productivity, farmer income, the quality and safety of consumer goods, and the sustainability of agriculture. GM crops also provide ways to adapt to the challenges climate change imposes on agriculture, including increased probabilities of drought and insect pest that are unmatched by any other approach. Boulder County family farmers, many who have been on the land for generations, seek to improve their stewardship with these tools, which have proven their value and benefits for humans and the environment. Their freedom to choose what seeds they plant should be expanded.
