From 1970 to 2000, labor productivity and private employment increased in step, writes Adams Nager in Innovation Files. However, this was simple coincidence. In fact, many other variables, including sugar consumption, exhibited similar trends. Labor productivity has almost no impact on private employment numbers, which are determined mostly by demographic trends.
