The Washington Post Magazine asked four experts, including Rob Atkinson, to re-imagine the classic board game Monopoly to reflect today’s economic realities. Atkinson’s proposed update, which he renamed “Innovation,” requires players to acquire eight key drivers of creating a high-tech startup—from a patent to venture capital and a skilled workforce. Once all eight drivers are acquired, players can create new businesses in one of three industries (biotechnology, robotics, or Internet). When other players land on a business, they pay for its product or service.
