Tanya Das

Dr. Tanya Das is an Associate Director for BPC’s Energy Program. She brings a decade of experience working in academia and government on projects related to clean energy, climate change, and manufacturing. She served the Biden Administration as the Chief of Staff of the Office of Science at the U.S. Department of Energy, overseeing and implementing new initiatives related to the DOE national labs, emerging technologies, clean energy development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Prior to that role, she served on the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology under Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson where she advanced legislation on a range of issues including technology transfer and commercialization, industrial emissions, advanced manufacturing, and grid modernization. She was formerly an AAAS/OSA-SPIE legislative fellow in the Office of U.S. Senator Chris Coons.

A Michigan native, Dr. Das earned her Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara and her B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

First of Its Kind: Making DOE’s New Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations a Success

The U.S. Department of Energy’s new Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations is a tremendous step forward for innovation and must become a permanent fixture in the federal structure. DOE needs time right now to build up the new office systematically, and over the next few years its funding must grow rapidly, so that it can drive a steady stream of innovations ready to be scaled up nationally and globally.
