Peter Sevcik

President

NetForecast

Peter Sevcik is the president of NetForecast. He is a leading authority on measuring, assessing, and improving the performance of networked applications. Peter has contributed to the design of more than 100 networks, including the Internet, and to the success of more than 25 application management products. He pioneered several performance management techniques that are in common use today.

Peter analyzes Internet performance from multiple perspectives, including: user experience, bandwidth consumption, broadband service quality, ISP traffic management, economic impacts of new technology, and long-range traffic projections. He is a neutral authority assessing the accuracy of Internet traffic metering and performance claims. His holistic approach enables deep insight into the fundamental supply-demand (bandwidth-content) economics of the Internet.

Peter invented the application performance index (Apdex) which is a numerical measure of user satisfaction with the performance of enterprise applications. He turned the methodology into an open standard and formed the Apdex Alliance.

Peter is a frequent lecturer on the performance of networked applications and co-authors the App Performance View blog at Network World.

Peter is a senior member of the IEEE and presented the IEEE Packet Switching and Network Performance seminar series. He is also a member of the ACM, having served as the editor of the Computer Communications Review. In addition he is a member of CMG and the SCTE. As a charter member of ANSI and ISO study groups on Public Data Networks, he directly contributed to the development of international communications standards. Peter holds the patent on application response-time prediction.

He is a graduate of the College of Engineering at Villanova University and recipient of their Professional Achievement Award.
