CEO

Micronic Technologies

Karen Sorber is the Co-founder and CEO of Micronic Technologies (Micronic), a woman-owned business with a proven state-of-the-art sustainable water desalination and purification technology.

Since Micronic’s inception in 2008, Karen has directed Micronic’s technology research and development program and attracted capital to that end. She secures myriad advisors, directors, and consultants to support corporate activities; makes all strategic decisions; manages company operations; manages Board activities; and ensures financial accountability and transparency of company operations. Perhaps most significant, she develops critical strategic relationships, including The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, Virginia Tech, and the University of Akron for assisting in research and third-party validation of the Company’s technology, MicroEVAPTM.

With five patents under it’s belt, Micronic has won $3M in federal and state grants to fully develop its MicroEVAPTM technology, including three USDA grants, a Navy grant, and a Virginia Tobacco Commission R&D grant. The MicroEVAP™ system is unique in that it removes virtually all contaminants from any source water and cleans to potable water standards in one pass using no membranes, filters, or chemicals. The system is estimated to cost 1/10th that of distillation with 95% throughput that will provide a huge impact on costs and sustainability in many industrial sectors thereby, trumping existing technologies.

Under Karen’s leadership, MicroEVAPTM received industry recognition in 2016, winning an international technological challenge awarded by General Electric and Statoil of Norway. Micronic was chosen, as 1 of 4 from over 100 applicants representing 23 countries, speaking to the power of MicroEVAPTM.

Prior to Micronic, Karen’s 35 years' work in government and industry includes an extensive operational contracting background and 24 years managing studies and assessments in policy, management, and the technology aspects of acquisition. Working with over 20 federal agencies, Karen's clients included the Departments of Defense, State, Interior, and Homeland Security. Karen has held executive level private sector and federal government positions. Her final federal post was Study Director of the Congressional Commission on Wartime Contracting in Iraq and Afghanistan. She is an effective leader and change agent, having worked with dozens of clients over the years to help them implement myriad acquisition management and operations improvements.
