Bernard L. Schwartz is an industrialist, a progressive public policy advocate and a philanthropist. Currently chairman and chief executive officer of BLS Investments, LLC, a private investment firm founded in 2006, Mr. Schwartz served for 34 years as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Loral Space & Communications, a NYSE-listed producer of satellites and satellite systems, and its predecessor company, Loral Corporation, a leading defense electronics firm. In addition, from 1989 to 2005, Mr. Schwartz served as chairman of the board of K&F Industries, a worldwide leader in the manufacture of wheels, brakes and brake control systems for commercial transport, general aviation and military aircraft. He also served until 2001 as chairman and CEO of Globalstar Telecommunications Limited, a mobile satellite telecommunications network.

Reflecting his interest in American competitiveness and growth, Mr. Schwartz has established programs that promote the development of U.S. economic policy initiatives at a number of think tanks, universities and advocacy organizations, among them the New America Foundation, Third Way, The New School, Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), the Council on Foreign Relations, the Asia Society, and the Brookings Institution.

A life-long New Yorker, Mr. Schwartz also serves as a trustee of the New York University Hospitals Center, the New York Historical Society, Thirteen/WNET Educational Broadcasting Corporation and Baruch College and is vice chairman of the New York Film Society.

Mr. Schwartz graduated from City College of New York with a B.S. degree in finance and holds an honorary Doctorate of Science degree from the college.
