Abigail Slater

Abigail Slater is General Counsel at Internet Association. At IA, Slater is an advocate for member companies on public policy issues before the courts and regulatory agencies. She also works to build out the IA’s presence overseas, in particular in the EU where she is admitted to practice.

Prior to working at IA, Slater spent 10 years at the Federal Trade Commission, where she worked as an enforcement attorney and then as attorney advisor to Commissioner Julie Brill. In her capacity as attorney advisor to Commissioner Brill, Slater briefed and advised the Commissioner on antitrust matters. Slater also reviewed and commented on court filings at trial and appellate levels made on behalf of the FTC and represented Commissioner Brill at internal and external meetings with stakeholders. As an enforcement attorney, Slater worked on several high profile enforcement actions in Federal District Court.

Slater first qualified as a lawyer at Freshfields in London and also worked in their Brussels and Washington, DC offices. She holds an M. Juris in European and Comparative Law from Oxford University and an LL.M in International Law from University College Dublin, Ireland. Slater earned a Bachelor in Civil Law from University College Dublin, Ireland and Würzburg University, Germany. She lives in Washington, DC with her husband and two children.
