Reversing U.S. Innovation Decline

January 25, 2011

Sen. Mark Warner, D-VA, honorary ITIF co-chair, and ITIF President Rob Atkinson offer a cautionary assessment of America's innovation capabilities and lay out a vision to restore our global economic leadership at an event at The Commonwealth Club of California on January 19, 2011. In ITIF's report, The Atlantic Century: Benchmarking EU and U.S. Innovation and Competitiveness, which measures corporate R&D, the number of scientists and engineers, venture capital investments and other factors, the United States ranked last among 40 countries in its progress over the past decade in innovation-based competitiveness. Policymakers have an urgent task ahead of them in revising tax and trade policies, boosting support for science and technology and reforming education.
