# U.S. Industrial Policy, Subsidies, and Trade

Rob Atkinson spoke on an expert panel hosted by the Washington International Trade Association.

With passage of the Chips and Science Act and the budget reconciliation bill, the United States will be spending hundreds of billions of dollars in the years to come to encourage investment in chip manufacturing and environmental technologies. The bills also provide billions more to fund scientific research and development, and to spur the innovation and development of other U.S. technologies.

Panelists discussed what this new spending means for the U.S. jobs, exports, and international trade policy, and how these bills position the U.S. relative to China and in relation to its allies and partners.
