The DMA in Action: Early Effects and Global Reach

Thursday, April 18, 202410:00 AM to 11:00 AM EST
Virtual Webinar

Event Summary

The European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) has been enforceable since March 7, 2024, targeting six big tech companies designated as “gatekeepers” with new compliance obligations. Notably, five of these are American. The European Commission has recently held compliance workshops and launched investigations against several “gatekeepers.”

This panel explores the DMA’s impact in and beyond Europe. Jurisdictions across the globe (Brazil, India, Korea, the UK, and Japan) are considering adopting versions of the EU’s legislation despite the lack of real-world data on its effectiveness or its potential unintended consequences. Meanwhile, the progressive left in the United States is calling for a shift from ex-post antitrust enforcement to Europe’s experimental ex-ante model.

Watch now for a panel discussion featuring experts from the EU, Brazil, Korea, and the United States.
