Event Summary

Counterfeit goods cause significant harm to American consumers and businesses. Since many counterfeiters exploit e-commerce to enter the U.S. market, the public and private sectors have identified, developed, and implemented best practices to reduce this type of online fraud. A new report by the National Intellectual Property Rights Center highlights the marketplace responses to these identified best practices. Many of these best practices involve improving data collection, sharing, and analytics to better screen sellers, identify fraudulent products, and investigate criminal activity.

The Center for Data Innovation hosted a panel discussion with experts in government and industry for a discussion on existing best practices, emerging trends and techniques, and further opportunities for public-private initiatives to use data to reduce counterfeits in e-commerce.
